Two former U.S. Marines and former CIA contractors have been indicted for running a murder incorporated scheme to rub out a mistress who threatened to expose an affair. The result was a double murder.
According to the indictment, Maund paid Peled's Speartip Security over $150,000 prior to the planned killing. The team surveilled their targets before Brockway and Carey confronted them in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Lanway and Williams were both shot and killed and then had their bodies dumped near a construction site on Old Hickory Boulevard in West Nashville.
Maund then wired $750,000 dollars to Peled and wrote a positive review of Speartip's services on their Google profile under his own name, stating: "They get the job done in an expedited time. Couldn’t imagine using anyone else!!"

German police raided several properties in Dresden on Wednesday morning after uncovering plans to murder the governor of the state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmar, authorities said.
The searches targeted individual members of a group on the messaging app Telegram who reportedly discussed plans to kill the governor and other members of the government over their Covid-19 vaccine policies, Saxony police said in a statement.
German investigative TV magazine ZDF Frontal 21 first reported on the alleged plot last Tuesday.
Saxony police said the news report prompted an official probe into the Telegram group "Dresden Offlinevernetzung," which means Dresden Offline Networking in German.

Santa Clara County’s Civil Grand Jury has taken the bombshell step of moving toward the removal of Sheriff Laurie Smith following an investigation into questions about corruption and jail mismanagement during the back half of Smith’s two-decade tenure.
In an official declaration filed in Superior Court on Tuesday, the civil grand jury accused Smith of seven corruption-related acts, six of them involving ongoing indictments alleging political favoritism and favor trading by leveraging her issuance of concealed-carry weapons permits. The seventh accuses Smith of failing to cooperate with the county law-enforcement auditor in its investigation into negligence allegations from a 2018 jail inmate injury case that led to a $10 million county settlement.
The civil grand jury has unique authority in the county to launch formal processes that could lead to the forced removal of an elected official, including the sheriff. The jury began investigating the sheriff’s office in October following a request by the Board of Supervisors, which this past fall passed a vote of “no confidence” in Smith, who was first elected in 1998.
It was not immediately clear what specific steps could follow the civil grand jury action, but Smith has been ordered to appear in court on the matter Jan. 12. Should Smith formally object to the accusation, a civil trial would follow.

With the rise of so-called "decentralized finance," or DeFi—a wave of new cryptocurrency projects that seek to replicate financial services on the blockchain without intermediaries—an important question has emerged: How "decentralized" is all of this stuff, really?
As it turns out, some of what makes up "web3," which DeFi falls within, is dependent on centralized web infrastructure. On Tuesday, Amazon Web Services experienced an outage in its key US-East-1 region that affected numerous websites, from Disney+ to VICE's own backend, as well as Amazon's warehouse operations. Caught in the crossfire was dYdX, a so-called "decentralized exchange" on Ethereum for cryptocurrency derivatives that has raised millions from investors including Andreesen Horowitz.
