White House Is Not Contact Tracing ‘Super-Spreader’ Rose Garden Event
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/05/health/contact-tracing-white-house.html
Despite almost daily disclosures of new coronavirus infections among President Trump’s close associates, the White House is making little effort to investigate the scope and source of its outbreak. The White House has decided not to trace the contacts of guests and staff members at the Rose Garden celebration 10 days ago for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, where at least eight people, including the president, may have become infected, according to a White House official familiar with the plans. Instead, it has limited its efforts to notifying people who came in close contact with Mr. Trump in the two days before his Covid diagnosis Thursday evening. It has also cut the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has the government’s most extensive knowledge and resources for contact tracing, out of the process.

Amazon near tipping point of switching from rainforest to savannah – study | Climate change | The Guardian
    https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2020/oct/05/amazon-near-tipping-point-of-switching-from-rainforest-to-savannah-study?__twitter_impression=true
Much of the Amazon could be on the verge of losing its distinct nature and switching from a closed canopy rainforest to an open savannah with far fewer trees as a result of the climate crisis, researchers have warned. Rainforests are highly sensitive to changes in rainfall and moisture levels, and fires and prolonged droughts can result in areas losing trees and shifting to a savannah-like mix of woodland and grassland. In the Amazon, such changes were known to be possible but thought to be many decades away. New research shows that this tipping point could be much closer than previously thought. As much as 40% of the existing Amazon rainforest is now at a point where it could exist as a savannah instead of as rainforest, according to a study published in the journal Nature Communications.

EPA Grants Oklahoma Control Over Tribal Lands
    https://tyt.com/stories/4vZLCHuQrYE4uKagy0oyMA/65Oa5a0nYI4rljnOqxhUto
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted the state of Oklahoma regulatory control over environmental issues on nearly all tribal lands there, TYT has learned. This strips from 38 tribes in Oklahoma their sovereignty over environmental issues. It also establishes a legal and administrative pathway to potential environmental abuses on tribal land, including dumping hazardous chemicals like carcinogenic PCBs and petroleum spills, with no legal recourse by the tribes, according to a former high-level official of the EPA. This also includes hazardous chemicals that are byproducts of petroleum procurement and refining. In 2019, Oklahoma had the fourth largest petroleum industry in the US.

    Welcome to Lammville
    https://jewishcurrents.org/welcome-to-lammville/
THE NEW VOTER REGISTRATIONS began arriving at the Sullivan County Board of Elections office a month before the March 2014 municipal election. Ann Prusinski and Rodney Gaebel, the respective Democratic and Republican county commissioners, sometimes received up to 50 at a time, all of them with addresses in Bloomingburg, one of the smallest municipalities in New York state. This was odd. The last time Bloomingburg held an election, only 24 people voted. Now it appeared the tiny village had acquired almost 150 new voters, practically overnight. The forms were hand-delivered by two men named Frank Taylor and Aryeh Lightstone—whom the commissioners didn’t recognize—and appeared to be written in the same handwriting, as if a third party had filled them out. It was all “very unusual,” Prusinski said. Almost all the new registrants had Jewish names. That could be explained: Hasidic families had been moving to the region for years. But when John Kahrs, a resident of a hamlet four miles northeast of Bloomingburg, sent cell-phone footage to the Board of Elections showing that the addresses of some newly registered voters were still occupied by their previous tenants, the commissioners became concerned.

‘Cops’ resumes production after cancellation in wake of George Floyd’s death
    https://myfox8.com/news/cops-resumes-production-after-cancellation-in-wake-of-george-floyds-death/
(WJW) — Paramount Network has resumed production of the hit television show “Cops” months after its cancellation, FOX News reports. The network canceled the show last June in wake of the death of George Floyd and the protests pushing for police reform. “‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a Paramount Network spokesperson told Fox Business right after announcing the cancellation. Now, officials say the show will be returning and production is currently underway in Spokane County, Washington. The county has previously hosted the show.

In big states, tiny counties, Trump attacking voting rules
    https://apnews.com/article/virus-outbreak-election-2020-donald-trump-local-elections-lawsuits-4298a514550323d39931f3e5fff2ccae
When Donald Trump’s campaign took issue with a new rule on processing some votes in North Carolina, it didn’t just complain to the Board of Elections and file a lawsuit. It wrote to some of the state’s 100 local election offices with extraordinary guidance: Ignore that rule. “The NC Republican Party advises you to not follow the procedures,” Trump campaign operative Heather Ford wrote in an email to county officials last week. The email urging defiance was a small glimpse at the unusually aggressive, hyperlocal legal strategy the Trump campaign is activating as voting begins. Through threatening letters, lawsuits, viral videos and presidential misinformation, the campaign and its GOP allies are going to new lengths to contest election procedures county-by-county across battleground states.
