Former Patent Litigator Becomes Federal Judge And Begins Advertising For Patent Trolls To Come To His Court (And They Have In Droves)
    https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20200927/01044945391/former-patent-litigator-becomes-federal-judge-begins-advertising-patent-trolls-to-come-to-his-court-they-have-droves.shtml
For years, you may recall that we would write about the insane nature of forum shopping for patent trolls, in which the trolls would flock to the federal courts in East Texas. Going back nearly 15 years, we wrote about how East Texas courts became grand central for patent troll cases, leading to all sorts of sketchy behavior. There are a bunch of empty office buildings setup in small Texas cities (mainly Marshall and Tyler) just to "pretend" to have offices there. Companies engaged in many patent cases started to try to suck up to residents of those small cities, in case they might be on a jury. TiVo literally bought a "Grand Champion Steer" just weeks before a jury was set to rule on a massive TiVo trolling case. Samsung threw so much money at the local "Stagecoach Days" event that it was renamed "Samsung Stagecoach Days," and built a Samsung ice rink right next to the courthouse in Marshall. ... However, as Patent Progress notes, there's a new judge vying to be at the top of the patent troll's Christmas list, and he's in West Texas. Judge Alan Albright, a former patent litigator, was appointed to the bench in 2018 -- and he literally went on a tour to convince companies to bring patent cases in his court:

Hydroxychloroquine Advocates Are Pissed Trump's Not Taking It For COVID
    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/hydroxychloroquine-advocates-are-pissed-trumps-not-taking-it-for-covid
President Donald Trump spent months earlier this year playing up the promise of the old anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in the fight against COVID-19. And along the way, he convinced the right-wing media to go along with him, boosting the drug even though there was no real proof of its efficacy against the virus.  Now that Trump is fighting his own case of COVID-19 without his miracle drug, the hydroxychloroquine advocates who followed his lead are pretty frustrated.  Dr. Stella Immanuel, the Houston-based doctor and preacher who specializes in demons and alien DNA, was part of a group of doctors who in July falsely declared hydroxychloroquine a “cure” for COVID-19. Trump shared a video of the group on his Twitter account and subsequently called Immanuel “very impressive.”

Golden Dawn: Greek neo-Nazi party was run as criminal group, court rules after landmark case
    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/golden-dawn-trial-greek-neo-nazi-party-murder-anti-fascist-rapper-b857871.html
Leaders of Greece's far-right Golden Dawn, the country's third most popular party in parliament during the debt crisis, were found guilty of running a criminal group, a Greek appeals court ruled on Wednesday. The court ruled that seven former Golden Dawn MPs, including its leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, were guilty of leading a criminal organisation, while the others were found guilty of participation in one. Earlier, the court found Golden Dawn sympathiser Yiorgos Roupakias guilty of killing 34-year old anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas in 2013. Roupakias confessed to the stabbing, which triggered the party’s demise as public outrage reached a tipping point and prompted a crackdown against the Golden Dawn. More than 15,000 people gathered for an anti-fascist rally outside the Athens courthouse on Wednesday. Applause broke out in and outwith the courtroom as Roupakias, who was found to have delivered the final stab wounds, was found guilty. Some 2,000 police officers have been brought into the city over fears that violence would break out between anti-fascists and Golden Dawn supporters. Riot police fired tear gas into the crowds as people chanted anti-fascist slogans, with observers from Amnesty International describing police use of the chemical weapon as “indiscriminate". Nils Muižnieks, Amnesty International’s Europe Director, said the ruling sends a message that violence and hate crimes will be ignored.

‘Wealthy white folks’ hijacked Fort Worth back-to-school debate, committee member says
    https://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/education/article246219170.html
A member of the Fort Worth school board’s Racial Equity Committee struck a nerve with some residents when he argued in a column that “wealthy white folks” are controlling the back-to-school debate, with some saying his column labeled a large swath of people as racist. Max Krochmal serves as a volunteer co-chair of the school board-appointed committee. On Sept. 22, the day the school board was set to vote again on the back-to-school date, an opinion column by Krochmal about the online learning debate appeared in the Fort Worth Weekly. He wrote that “the demands for ‘rigor’ and ‘choice’ and now ‘in-person’ activities from the ultra-privileged have a habit of steamrolling other voices and our collective conversations on equity.” Krochmal, who is an associate professor of history at TCU, said “wealthy white folks demand in-person learning” without regarding the cost to marginalized communities, who might not have health insurance or be able to pay for medical care if they contracted COVID-19. “The folks in Tanglewood, Benbrook, and — worse — those who have already abandoned FWISD are insulated from the full effects of COVID,” he wrote. Krochmal argued that some people demanding in-person learning were showing “dripping paternalism and, yes, racism toward Black and Brown families.” Petition calls for removal Suzanne Asfar started a petition calling for Krochmal’s removal from the Equity Committee. As of Tuesday morning, 197 people had signed.
