Gugger’s social media postings emerged Monday as the city’s police union came to her defense and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw pledged to take “swift and definitive action” against any Philadelphia police officer found to have participated in the lawlessness that took place at the Capitol. Until Saturday, Gugger worked as a background checker for police recruits. Part of her job included monitoring their social media posts. But Gugger has used her own social media accounts as a repository for increasingly virulent far-right rhetoric. In October, she changed her profile picture to a reference to Q, the false theory that posits that Trump is fighting a secret war against the “deep state” and that Democrats are led by Satan-worshipping pedophiles. That same month, the FBI declared the movement a domestic threat.

Three years after her debut on Medium, Kathleen Stock has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her "services to higher education." Stock claims to support trans people and just also be concerned for cis women. Her activism and words paint a different picture. It is striking for someone to receive such a prestigious award for something that can only be referred to euphemistically. Stock has solely devoted herself, in this period, to the "gender critical" movement—a movement, in her words, identified with the position that "that trans women shouldn’t be counted as women." She accepted the award on Twitter with a speech about the need to get the LGBT organization Stonewall out of the university. It has been surreal, the past few years, to watch the things Stock actually says, and the ways she actually treats people, and then hear how she is described. "If you really think I'm an 'anti-trans' activist you really had better spell out why, and with evidence," she said on Twitter yesterday. I will do that here.

A self-described "hidden patriot" from Nashville, outed on social media as a rioter who invaded the U.S. Senate chambers Wednesday with a weapon and zip-tie handcuffs, was arrested Sunday on federal charges, NewsChannel 5 has learned. FBI agents took Eric Gavelek Munchel, age 30, into custody on a federal arrest warrant charging him with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. He was booked into a Nashville jail at 2:50 p.m.

Several people kicked the officer as he lay on the ground, and one man repeatedly bashed him with an American flag pole.

The Supreme Court on Monday denied President Trump's request to fast-track consideration of several lawsuits challenging the election results in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and rebuffed similar suits brought by pro-Trump attorneys. The court announced its decision in an unsigned order that did not disclose the justices' voting breakdown or rationale, which is how the Supreme Court typically handles denials of such requests. The move all but guarantees the justices will not take up the cases prior to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, and represents a final nail in the coffin in Trump’s voluminous and failed post-election legal effort.
