Stephen Clay McGehee is an avowed white supremacist. He is also a prominent Florida election tech figure who sells campaign finance software. Florida politics is littered with hate groups, accused Capitol rioters, and far-right extremists. Although many operate in public, or have been outed in recent years, beneath the surface even more malevolent beliefs and ideology can fester. The Daily Dot recently discovered that one of the companies the state authorizes to provide campaigns and political action committees (PACs) with campaign finance software is owned by an open and avowed white supremacist who still praises the Confederacy. Stephen Clay McGehee owns Adjutant Workshop, one of eight companies the Florida Division of Elections approves to provide this service. Adjutant Workshop’s software enables campaigns to electronically file contribution and expenditure records. Its website claims its software, called Campaign ToolBox, “has been the most widely-used political campaign finance reporting software in Florida since 1996.”

Somehow, that seems appropriate.

How the band managed to use artificial intelligence as a collaborator, a sort of phantom band member, has already become part of music-industry lore. But Evans says the experience has not only changed their creative process, but also their understanding of how music is made. “We went into this naively and blindly,” says Evans. “Part of the intent of this project was that, maybe by running our back catalog through these mystical algorithmic processes, we will come to some better understanding of who we are, tap into the DNA of a YACHT song, and understand the formula of what makes us who we are. I think what doing this made us realize is that that formula doesn’t exist.”

In that time, the price tag for this project has more than tripled; the final cost is now tabbed at upwards of $1.9 billion, and will all but certainly be significantly higher than that. Close to half a billion of those dollars figure to come from local sources. That’s something to think about the next time your bus doesn’t show up; Muni is a system with infinite needs and finite resources. And this is how it’s spending them. The sclerotic process of the Central Subway is, by definition, an old story. We’ve had lots of time to write about how it’s taking lots of time. That doesn’t make it okay, but you’ve read this. The exploding cost is also not a revelation, and San Francisco officials have long since given up feigning concern about a couple hundred million here or couple hundred million there. Hey! Stuff costs money! So get off it! As an ostensible cost-saving measure, the Central Subway tunnel platforms were designed to only accommodate two-car trains — a disastrous decision, among so many disastrous decisions, that singularly dooms this multi-billion dollar project to failure. Someday in the future, the Central Subway will finally open. And someday after that, the transit riders of San Francisco will pine for the days that it was closed. “As a transit nerd and subway fan, it is painful how badly they built this subway,” laments former longtime BART commissioner Tom Radulovich.

A messaging app for parents and teachers said Wednesday that it was hacked after some parents said they had received messages with an explicit photo that is infamous on the internet. Dozens of homeless men were forced to sleep on floors and benches at an intake center in Manhattan on Monday night due to a lack of available beds, according to two local advocacy groups, marking the second time this summer that Mayor Adams’ administration appears to have violated the city’s right-to-shelter law. In a joint statement Tuesday, the Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless said they had received confirmation from the city Department of Social Services that at least 60 men were denied placement at the intake center on 30th Street and First Avenue. Joshua Goldfein, an attorney with the Legal Aid Society, told the Daily News that his group learned that the 60 men had still not received shelter beds as of 9 a.m. Tuesday after showing up at the intake center the day before. He said the actual number of individuals who didn’t get shelter could be higher. “They just sat there all night, waiting to get a bed, and they never did,” Goldfein said. Since the city is a right-to-shelter jurisdiction, it must provide a shelter bed to anyone seeking one — meaning Monday night’s slipup likely broke the law. In July, Adams’ administration admitted it violated the same law by failing to find beds in a timely manner for at least five Latin American families, hundreds of whom have arrived in New York in recent months after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in hopes of seeking asylum.

Louisiana Citizens Insurance Corp., the state’s insurer of last resort, wants to raise its already-high prices by more than half, following a dramatic increase in demand for coverage after eight private insurers collapsed and nearly a dozen others exited the state. The organization has asked the Louisiana Department of Insurance for a 63% rate increase for personal property coverage, which would hit its more than 102,000 homeowners policies, records show. If approved, the rate increase could generate as much as $158 million that officials say is needed to cover their risk. The last rate increase Lousiana Citizens received, by comparison, was 4.8% for new and renewing policyholders. It went into effect June 1. The wave of hurricanes that began in 2020 triggered a chain of events that’s putting more pressure on Louisiana’s troubled insurance marketplace. Several insurers, crippled by a staggering number of claims, have gone out of business or pulled out of the state. Boston Emergency Medical Services says one person was injured in a reported explosion on the Northeastern University campus Tuesday night. Boston police said they received a 911 call shortly after 7:15 p.m. regarding two suspicious packages at 39 Leon St., which is the listed address for Holmes Hall. Boston EMS said that multiple units responded to Leon Street for a reported explosion and that one patient was treated and transported to an area hospital by a basic life support ambulance. Northeastern University police tweeted that emergency services personnel were responding to an incident at Holmes Hall and asked people to avoid the area.

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA (WTAJ) — An armed Pennsylvania man in a rainbow wig who was trying to ‘restore Trump as President’ was arrested at a Dairy Queen, Delmont Borough police report. The wigged man who reportedly told police he “talks to God” is 61-year-old Jan Stawovy, of Hunker Pa. Police were called Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10, due to Stawovy driving erratically. While looking for his Jeep, police said they were informed he pulled into a Dairy Queen on Greensburg Street and he was inside wearing a bright yellow vest, a rainbow wig, and carrying a handgun.
