Trump Privately Proposes Wave of High-Level Jan. 6 Pardons
    https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/donald-trump-pardons-jan6-maralago-raid-1234692667/
Donald Trump has privately told confidants that, should he be re-elected president, he could pardon any of his allies if they face charges from the Biden-era Justice Department in two major probes, two people familiar with the matter tell Rolling Stone. Since last summer, the former president has been telling some of those close to him that the pardons would be for higher-level people and could come early in his time in office, effectively wiping away a multi-year effort to hold powerful people and their cohorts legally accountable for their actions during and after Trump’s first term. “This would be like hitting the delete-key on all of [the] DOJ’s work on these investigations — and be an opening shot in his next war on the ‘Deep State,’” says one of the sources, adding it would be part of Trump “cleaning house” at the start of his second term. “The idea was that he can just pardon everybody [if] he’s president again … That he can do it ‘fast’ and early on in his [new] term,” the source continues. “He was not talking about the [Jan. 6 rioters and] prisoners, it was about people working on post-election activities and on the documents. All the different ‘witch hunts.’”

Epidural Please! Nick Cannon's Pregnancy Game Show Looks Extremely Painful.
    https://jezebel.com/nick-cannon-who-s-having-my-baby-pregnancy-game-show-1850199754
On Monday, Nick Cannon, father to 12 children, posted a cryptic Instagram story featuring a baby bottle emoji, saying he had big news to share. A collective grigh (groan/sigh) went around the world. Was he teasing the revelation of lucky number baby 13? Yet somehow the actual reveal was even more disconcerting than simply procreating once more. Instead, Nick Cannon is going to be hosting a game show called Who’s Having My Baby? in which women compete to…have a baby with him.

‘It’s legal, there’s just no precedent’: the first US town to demand a rent decrease
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/mar/07/new-york-housing-rent-costs-kingston-tenants
In Kingston, New York, tenants say their survival depends on the city ordering a rent reduction – something that’s never been done before Half of Kingston’s 24,000 residents are renters, but finding a vacant apartment has become nearly impossible. The median rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Kingston hit $1,615 this year – roughly 25% more expensive than three years ago. That’s devastating in a city where the median per capita income is just over $32,000, and nearly one-fifth of residents live under the federal poverty line. What began 10 years ago as a trend of city-dwellers flocking to Kingston as an alternative to the Hamptons was exacerbated by the pandemic. Younger New Yorkers drawn to Kingston’s Instagram-worthy Uptown and the Rondout district’s charming riverfront also found its outdoorsy backdrops suitable for remote work. Landlords in Kingston responded to the demand by converting houses into Airbnbs – between 2019 and 2021, there was a 30% surge in short-term rental bookings in Ulster county, which includes Kingston and the nearby town of Woodstock, with nearly 2,000 active vacation rentals charging an average nightly rate of $441, according to a rental industry report.

Twitter acqui-hires creative agency Ueno to help design new products
    https://techcrunch.com/2021/01/06/twitter-acquihires-creative-agency-ueno-to-help-design-new-products/
Twitter this morning announced it’s bringing the full-service creative agency Ueno in-house to work alongside Twitter’s own design and research teams. The move, an acqui-hire of sorts, is one where Twitter is essentially buying the agency with which it already had a close working relationship, as Ueno had previously partnered with Twitter on various design […] (This is old, it's about the company of the guy Elon publicly fired while mocking his physical disability.)

2 killer whales slaughter 17 sharks in 1 day
    https://earthsky.org/earth/killer-whales-port-and-starboard-17-shark-livers-in-1-day/
Port and Starboard are the names of two infamous orcas that swim off the coast of South Africa. Their names come from their rare collapsed dorsal fins: Port’s bends to the left and Starboard’s bends to the right. The pair went on a killing spree last week, attacking and killing at least 17 broadnose sevengill sharks in a single day (February 24, 2023). The whales ate only the sharks’ livers and left their bodies to wash up on the beach.

‘It’s like finding needles in a haystack’: the mission to discover if Jupiter’s moons support life

And it is not just Europa. Jupiter possesses three other large moons: Io, Ganymede and Callisto. Galileo data also showed that Jupiter’s moon Ganymede and maybe even Callisto have interior oceans. At Saturn, the Esa/Nasa Cassini-Huygens mission revealed something similar for the moons Enceladus and Titan.

Alabama Girls' Basketball Team Being Denied Championship Sparks Outrage
    https://www.newsweek.com/alabama-girls-basketball-team-denied-championship-sparks-outrage-1785731
The treatment of an Alabama girls' basketball team has sparked outrage after the mom of one of the players claimed they were denied a trophy for winning a championship because they were not boys. The fifth-grade girls' team has been representing Spain Park High School in Hoover City, in the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama, but were given an ultimatum about their practice facility—either play in the boys' championship or lose the opportunity to use the facility, according to the mom, who addressed the situation on Facebook. The girls' team went on to beat the boys' teams on the way to winning the championship, only to find that they were denied the trophy. (Not sure why they're using images of older girls in NY when this is about fifth graders in Alabama)

Pope John Paul II covered up child abuse as cardinal in Poland, says report
    https://www.france24.com/en/europe/20230306-pope-john-paul-ii-covered-up-child-abuse-as-cardinal
Michal Gutowski, the investigator behind the broadcast, said that Karol Wojtyla, as he then was, knew of cases of paedophile priests within the church while still a cardinal in Krakow. He transferred the priests to other dioceses -- one as far away as Austria -- to ensure no scandal ensued, he said. Wojtyla, who was pope for 27 years from 1978 until his death in 2005, wrote a letter of recommendation for a priest accused of abuse to Vienna cardinal Franz Koenig, without mentioning the accusations, says Gutowski. During his investigation, Gutowski says he spoke to victims of paedophile priests, their families and former church diocese employees.

Florida bill would require bloggers who write about governor to register with the state
    https://www.wfla.com/news/politics/florida-bill-would-require-bloggers-who-write-about-governor-to-register-with-the-state/
Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines. Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics. In the bill, Brodeur wrote that those who write “an article, a story, or a series of stories,” about “the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, a Cabinet officer, or any member of the Legislature,” and receives or will receive payment for doing so, must register with state offices within five days after the publication of an article that mentions an elected state official.
