    https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/08/maga-internet-turns-on-trump-456490
And there was anger. It was directed at Trump for letting things get this far. Over on Parler, the social media platform beloved by the MAGA community for its lax moderation policies, users erupted in fury, calling him a “tranny cuck pedophile,” a “dildo,” and “100% THE SWAMP.”

'Human foot' in Gateshead field turns out to be potato
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-tyne-55585065
A suspected human foot buried in a muddy field turned out to be a potato after a "large-scale" police search. A dog walker in Gateshead sent officers a photograph of what appeared to be a toe poking out of the soil. But after carrying out the search in the dark with specialist dogs, officers discovered it was a potato with a mushroom growing next to it. Police praised the woman for her "vigilance" and said the call had been made in "good faith". Northumbria Police said the photograph, sent on Tuesday when the woman had returned home from her walk in the Winlaton area, "did show what appeared to be a human foot".

The Sperm Kings Have a Problem: Too Much Demand
    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/08/business/sperm-donors-facebook-groups.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=Technology
The sperm kings of America are exhausted. These men are flying all over the place. They are shipping their sperm with new vial systems and taking the latest DNA tests because that is what women want now. Sure, they can talk on the phone, but they say it has to be quick because they are driving to Dallas or Kansas City or Portland, Maine, in time for an ovulation window. They would like to remind me they have day jobs.

‘This Apology Is Bullshit And I Am Lying To You,’ Says GOP Senator To Widespread Media Praise
    https://www.theonion.com/this-apology-is-bullshit-and-i-am-lying-to-you-says-1846012923
In a speech addressing the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol the previous day, GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released a statement to widespread media praise Thursday saying “this apology is bullshit and I am lying to you.” “Nothing—and I repeat, nothing—I’m saying about the violent attack on Washington is an accurate representation of how I really feel,” said Graham in a video lauded by anchors across CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News for being “powerful” and “healing,” before adding that the expressions of anger and sadness that his facial expression implied were also entirely false. “As a longtime senator from South Carolina, I walk a delicate political tightrope that requires me to act with a certain amount of decorum, even when I don’t want to. That’s what this is. When some big event like this one seems to threaten our democracy, I get pressured into saving face, and so I do the convenient thing and say whatever horseshit about democracy gets people off my back. But let’s be completely clear, I am still the same person, and soon enough my actions will speak for themselves.” At press time, Graham confirmed that his speech had led to him being offered a position in Biden’s cabinet.

Some among America's military allies believe Trump deliberately attempted a coup and may have had help from federal law-enforcement officials
    https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-attempted-coup-federal-law-enforcement-capitol-police-2021-1
he supporters of President Donald Trump who stormed the Capitol on Wednesday to stop the ratification of President-elect Joe Biden's election victory were attempting a violent coup that multiple European security officials said appeared to have at least tacit support from aspects of the US federal agencies responsible for securing the Capitol complex. Insider spoke with three officials on Thursday morning: a French police official responsible for public security in a key section of central Paris, and two intelligence officials from NATO countries who directly work in counterterrorism and counterintelligence operations involving the US, terrorism, and Russia. They said the circumstantial evidence available pointed to what would be openly called a coup attempt in any other nation. None were willing to speak on the record because of the dire nature of the subject.

Tarnished by Trump: National security officials struggle to find new jobs
    https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/08/post-trump-jobs-national-security-456180
They have been snubbed by potential employers, told they would be a “liability” and in one instance were even compared to the "Hitler Youth." This is the job market many experienced national security officials who work for President Donald Trump are facing just days before a new president takes office and they will be out of work. ... During her own job search this summer, Troye was told directly by one potential employer that they could not offer her a job because she was a “liability.” “I can’t tell you how hurtful it was to hear that,” said Troye, noting that the incident was a reality check.

'I'm Just Getting Cornered by 30, 40 People': A Trump Mob in Los Angeles Attacked a Black Woman on Same Day as U.S. Capitol Terror
    https://www.theroot.com/im-just-getting-cornered-by-30-40-people-a-trump-mob-1846012397
Nibo responded that they should put on their masks, and that’s when she says they started surrounding her while ironically chanting “All Lives Matter,” and then attacked her. Nibo had gotten separated from her friends by then and was now alone in the middle of the fracas. “It’s just me and all of a sudden I’m just getting cornered by 30, 40 people,” she said. “That’s what started all of them to jump in and shoving me around. Then some lady comes out of nowhere and starts tugging on my hair, trying to pull my hair off of my head.” After the mob ripped Nibo’s extensions off her head, she says they started pepper-spraying her directly in the eye—what she believes was an attempt to make her vulnerable to an even more severe attack. “They were trying to put me on the floor so they could just stomp on me and kick me.”

Trump Fur-Ever: Costumed Capitol Rioter Is Son Of Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge
    https://gothamist.com/news/trump-fur-ever-costumed-capitol-rioter-son-brooklyn-supreme-court-judge
The politically-connected son of a Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge was among the band of Trump-supporting marauders who ransacked the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday. Dressed in fur pelts and a bullet proof vest, Aaron Mostofsky joined an early wave of rioters who swarmed the halls of Congress, forcing lawmakers to evacuate before certifying Joe Biden's election victory. He can be seen in several photos outside the Senate chambers, holding a wooden stick and a police riot shield, alongside a man carrying a Confederate flag. Like the vast majority of those who breached the capitol, Mostofsky was permitted to leave without arrest.

These Are the Rioters Who Stormed the Nation’s Capitol
    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/us/names-of-rioters-capitol.html
There were infamous white nationalists and noted conspiracy theorists who have spread dark visions of pedophile Satanists running the country. Others were more anonymous, people who had journeyed from Indiana and South Carolina to heed President Trump’s call to show their support. One person, a West Virginia lawmaker, had only been elected to office in November. All of them converged on Wednesday on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, where hundreds of rioters crashed through barricades, climbed through windows and walked through doors, wandering around the hallways with a sense of gleeful desecration, because, for a few breathtaking hours, they believed that they had displaced the very elites they said they hated. Aaron, the construction worker from Indianapolis, and his two friends had heard people talking about going to Ms. Pelosi’s office. So once inside they decided to instead find Senator Chuck Schumer’s office. Both are Democrats. “We wanted to have a few words” with Mr. Schumer, he said. “He’s probably the most corrupt guy up here. You don’t hear too much about him. But he’s slimy. You can just see it.” But they could not find Mr. Schumer’s office. He said they asked a Capitol Police officer, who tried to direct them. But they appeared to have gotten nowhere near the minority’s leader’s office. They ended up smoking a few cigarettes inside the building — “We can smoke in our house,” Aaron said — and one of his friends, who would not give his name, joked that he had gone to the bathroom and not flushed.

    A union at Google? Here's why | 48 hills
    https://48hills.org/2021/01/a-union-at-google-heres-why/
A lot of people think that tech workers have it made—high salary, great benefits, fancy catered lunches eaten while sitting on bean bags, and now pretty much unlimited working from home. Google’s original motto was even “Don’t be evil,” exuding optimism and confidence in a brighter tomorrow. In recent years, however, that reputation has begun to falter. More than half of the people who work Google now are temporary workers, vendors, or contractors, who often earn less, get worse, if any, benefits, lack robust protections against discrimination, and are disproportionately people of color compared to employees at Google. And this week, about 220 workers at Alphabet and its sister companies, including Google, formally announced that they are unionizing; membership has already almost doubled to more than 400. The Alphabet Workers Union is focused on ensuring that workers have the right to refuse to work on projects they deem unethical, holding perpetrators of harassment and discrimination accountable, and to improving worker conditions, particularly for TVCs. Union dues are set at one percent of total compensation.
