Songbird chicks are being killed by high levels of pesticides in the pet fur used by their parents to line their nests, a study has found.
Researchers surveying nests for the harmful chemical found in pet flea treatments found that it was present in every single nest. The scientists from the University of Sussex are now calling for the government to urgently reassess the environmental risk of pesticides used in flea and tick treatments and consider restricting their use.
Cats and dogs are widely treated with insecticides to prevent against fleas. Vets often recommend regular flea treatments as a preventive measure, even when dogs and cats do not have the pest. But scientists now recommend animals should not be treated for fleas unless they actually have them.

Vancouver’s mayor intends to reject any new supportive housing projects proposed in his city, as he promises an undefined police response against “criminal networks.”
Ken Sim made the major policy announcements Thursday at a public safety forum organized by the Save Our Streets coalition of community and business groups.
“This is a regressive move because we know that Vancouver has a severe housing shortage, and we need housing of all types,” said Peter Waldkirch, with Abundant Housing Vancouver. “The very last thing we need is for cities to start pointing the finger at each other and using their powers to actually block housing, because we know that the solution to homelessness is more housing, and building less supportive housing just means more homelessness.”

The first days of the Gaza ceasefire have seen Hamas operatives patrolling city streets, guarding aid convoys and clearing rubble.
Like the footage of the hostage releases on Sunday that was carefully cropped to show a dominant Hamas presence in the Gaza Strip, the terror group is working hard to present itself as having defiantly survived 15 months of war with Israel.
But even if the scenes are exaggerated and anecdotal, Hamas is undoubtedly the only force even purporting to rule the Strip after Israeli forces pulled back out of population zones on Sunday.

It probably won’t surprise you that RFK Jr., along with Tulsi Gabbard, are among the few Trump nominees who might actually not get confirmed. But I’m told that one senator who Democratic senators and health care advocates have real concerns about is none other than Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). To be clear, Whitehouse isn’t confirmed as voting for Kennedy. But he appears to be actively considering it. (Ed Note: WTF?)
Why? I’m told that there appear to be two reasons: One is that Whitehouse and Kennedy are personal friends. They were law school roommates at UVA and that seems to have been the beginning of a lifelong friendship. There are also specific issues with Rhode Island’s health care system that apparently need regulatory flexibility from HHS. That seems to be a real issue. But it hasn’t been enough of an issue to shift the state’s senior senator, Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), who remains firmly opposed to Kennedy’s nomination.
