    https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/07/what-if-republicans-hated-lockdowns-masks-but-not-vaccine.html
Tommy Tuberville suggests the best way to erode vaccine hesitancy is to give Trump credit for those shots in the arm. That may be sad but true.

Nick Saban already is using NIL deals as a recruiting tool - ProFootballTalk
    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/07/21/nick-saban-already-is-using-nil-deals-as-a-recruiting-tool/
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney once said he’d quit if players were permitted to make money. (He hasn’t, yet.) Alabama coach Nick Saban has opted instead to pivot — especially since he sees a clear advantage from doing so. On one hand, Saban is accepting the new reality because he has no other choice. Trends change, and smart coaches adjust. On the other hand, Saban (arguably the best recruiter in the history of college sports) already sees a way to use the new NIL rules to lure more great players to his program. “Our quarterback [Bryce Young] already has approached ungodly numbers,” Saban said Tuesday, via 247sports.com. “I’m not going to say what they are. He hasn’t even played yet. He hasn’t been a starter. If I told you what he’s . . . it’s almost 7-figures. And it’s like the guy hasn’t even played yet. That’s because of our program.” The comment about Young making so much money has become the headline, but Saban was sure to add the hammer. Young will be making that money because he’s playing for the University of Alabama.

NJ's top court takes 21st century approach on implicit bias in jury selection
    https://www.reuters.com/legal/legalindustry/njs-top-court-takes-21st-century-approach-implicit-bias-jury-selection-2021-07-20/
The New Jersey Supreme Court issued a remarkable opinion last week that makes vital changes to how the state court system views discrimination, and begins to address a little-known practice of conducting criminal history checks on prospective jurors. The justices’ unanimously awarded a new trial in State v. Edwin Andujar on July 13, after reviewing Andujar’s conviction for murdering his roommate in 2014. In doing so, the court opinion explicitly recognized unconscious racial bias as a form of illegal discrimination. Implicit bias "is no less real and no less problematic than intentional bias,” Chief Justice Stuart Rabner wrote. “From the standpoint of the State Constitution, it makes little sense to condemn one form of racial discrimination yet permit another.” That portion of the ruling, in and of itself, is momentous, in terms of aligning the judiciary with the abundance of social science research on implicit bias. It leaves no doubt that discrimination claims can be based entirely on unconscious bias.

Gay men arrested under Md. sodomy law in adult bookstore raid
    https://www.washingtonblade.com/2021/07/21/gay-men-arrested-under-md-sodomy-law-in-adult-bookstore-raid/
Harford County, Md., Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested four men on a charge of Perverted Sexual Practice under the state’s sodomy law during a May 20 raid on the Bush River Books & Video store in the town of Abington, located 25 miles north of Baltimore. A statement released by the Sheriff’s Office to the Washington Blade, at the Blade’s request, says a total of nine arrests were made during the May 20 “operation,” which the statement says was prompted by complaints about the adult store by nearby residents and some of its patrons. According to the statement, among the nine men arrested, three were charged only with Perverted Sexual Practice, one was charged with Perverted Sexual Practice and Indecent Exposure, four were charged only with indecent exposure, and one was charged with Solicitation of Prostitution. A friend of one of the arrested men told the Blade that his friend rented one of the store’s private video rooms and was with another male friend inside the room when sheriff’s deputies “in full riot gear unlocked his room and arrested him and his friend” on a charge of indecent exposure.
