Supply-Chain Snarls Deliver Windfalls to Wall Street
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/supply-chain-snarls-deliver-windfalls-to-wall-street-11637231401
To capitalize on the boom, hedge funds and lenders are flipping container ships, signing multiyear contracts to charter them out at high rates and taking gains on their equity stakes in container-shipping companies whose stock prices have soared. Mangrove founder Nathaniel August assembled a fleet of container ships in 2017 and 2018, buying discounted vessels at scrap value, renaming them after major figures for the New England Patriots football team and chartering them out. He saw additional gains if the vessels themselves rose in value. As charter rates soared, Mangrove sold. The firm in September sold four Panamax container ships for $242 million, trade publication FreightWaves reported. Mangrove bought the ships for $32 million in 2017, according to industry-research firm VesselsValue.

Report: Activision Took Years To Fire Someone Who Signed Emails '1-800-ALLCOCK'
    https://kotaku.com/report-activision-took-years-to-fire-someone-who-signe-1848094825
A California lawsuit earlier this year alleged sexual harassment, discrimination, and a pervasive “frat boy culture” at Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard. At least in one instance, that culture included an employee signing all of his work emails as “1-800-ALLCOCK.” That detail comes from the latest episode of The Wall Street Journal podcast which elaborates on some of its recent bombshell investigative report outlining new instances of misconduct and coverups, including by CEO Bobby Kotick. “There was one example where an Activision employee had for years just signed his email signature 1-800-ALLCOCK,” reporter Kirsten Grind said in a transcript of the podcast. “So if you were a woman, you would get that email and that was just the normal course, right? Just guys being guys joking about it and you just sort of felt like that was what happened at Activision.”

New Lawsuit Against Tesla Alleges 'Rampant Sexual Harassment,' Which Can Be Traced to the Top
    https://jezebel.com/new-lawsuit-against-tesla-alleges-rampant-sexual-harass-1848090779
Barraza said the culture of day-to-day harassment and dehumanization that she and other women workers at Tesla’s Fremont factory experience can be traced to the top. She specifically cited one tweet in particular by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, made at the end of last month: “Am thinking of starting new university: Texas Institute of Technology & Science,” Musk wrote. The acronym for this university would be TITS, and for anyone who might try to excuse this as unintentional, Musk doubled down to all but confirm what he meant in a follow-up tweet.

Meet Gunther VI, a German Shepherd worth nearly $500 million
    https://www.avclub.com/an-enormously-wealthy-german-shepherd-named-gunther-vi-1848089317
Gunther VI, a German shepherd with more wealth than the vast majority of the human species, will, unfortunately, need to be executed in the coming class war. Like the youngest children of Tsar Nicholas II, his death will be tragic in that he’s an innocent, born into a life of unfair luxury that he didn’t ask for. Alas, reading the details of Gunther VI’s life makes it depressingly obvious that the dog’s killing by firing squad will be an eventual necessity if we are to create a better world.

How ‘WitchTok’ Lets Kids Dabble In The Occult From Their Phones
    https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/16/how-witchtok-lets-kids-dabble-in-the-occult-from-their-phones/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-witchtok-lets-kids-dabble-in-the-occult-from-their-phones
Although lip-syncing, synchronized dancing, and comedic skits tend to catch the most attention on TikTok, another form of art is gaining popularity: witchcraft. Last month, the Washington Post even ran a feature piece taking readers “inside the life of a teenage witch,” “from spellcasting to podcasting.” The Wiccan organization Covenant of the Goddess defines witchcraft as “a magical religion with many diverse traditions derived from various cultural sources around which covens and individual practitioners base their practices.” The hashtag “#WitchTok” has roughly 20 billion views, making it one of the more popular hashtags on TikTok. One can find thousands of videos on potions, tea leaf and tarot card readings, pendulum boards, astral projection, magic charms, wands, crystals, automatic writing, channeling, and spellcasting. These occultic practices, which would have been much more fringe and less accessible in previous generations, are now highly accessible and even trending for Gen Z, thanks in part to the rise of postmodernism.

Resurgence Of Fascism Forces Warhammer To Remind Fans Imperium Are Villains
    https://kotaku.com/resurgence-of-facism-forces-warhammer-to-remind-fans-im-1848089843
Some Warhammer 40,000 players think the game’s fascist Imperium of Man faction is awesome, and actually has a few good ideas. It does not. To clarify this point—which more than one Warhammer 40K fan appears to have missed—maker Games Workshop put out a statement saying that you do not, under any circumstances, “gotta hand it to them.” “There are no goodies in the Warhammer 40,000 universe,” Games Workshop wrote on its website today. “None. Especially not the Imperium of Man...We believe in and support a community united by shared values of mutual kindness and respect. Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be.” The statement comes just a couple weeks after controversy broke out when a player wore Nazi symbols to an unofficial tournament in Spain and the organizers apparently didn’t throw him out, despite complaints from other players.

DonorsTrust Gives $600k Donation to White Nationalist Hate Group
    https://www.exposedbycmd.org/2021/11/19/donorstrust-gives-600k-donation-to-white-nationalist-hate-group/
DonorsTrust, “the dark-money ATM of the conservative movement,” gave an unprecedented $600,000 to infamous white nationalist Jared Taylor’s American Renaissance in 2020. DonorsTrust is a fund associated with the Kochs, the Mercers, and other right-wing billionaire families. It is a donor-advised fund sponsor, meaning that it manages individual charitable accounts for its clients for a fee. These clients, who can hide their identities from the public by using DonorsTrust, “advise” DonorsTrust about where the money should go, but the organization has total legal authority to decide which organizations will receive funding. In 2020, DonorsTrust also gave $75,000 to the foundation behind the prominent white nationalist hate group VDARE, the tax records show. The previous year, as CMD first reported, DonorsTrust gave over $1.5 million to the VDARE Foundation. The amount was far greater than the group’s previous annual revenue record and likely helped VDARE purchase a castle in West Virginia. In total, VDARE took in a whopping $4.3 million in 2019, as CMD and the SPLC reported.

The Lone Wolf in the Henhouse
    https://progressive.org/magazine/lone-wolf-in-the-henhouse-christophi/
Neo-Nazis still talk about Brian P. Haughton. He played drums in Arresting Officers, one of the biggest neo-Nazi punk bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s. They churned out dozens of violent skinhead anthems before Haughton became a Philadelphia police officer in 1995. Now Haughton works in domestic counterterrorism for the U.S. Department of Justice. He has access to sensitive intelligence used by more than 1,000 federal agencies and police departments in all fifty states to stop attacks by white supremacists—the deadliest domestic terrorist movement in the United States, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security. As of early November, at least, Haughton worked in the Justice Department’s Regional Information Sharing Systems program, dubbed RISS. Law enforcement agencies share intelligence regionally and nationally through its platform, one of several that have proliferated since 9/11. It is also used by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. Haughton, now in his early fifties, works as a law enforcement coordinator in RISS’s Middle Atlantic–Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network in Newtown, Pennsylvania, one of six regional centers spanning the United States. Haughton has this job even though his links to the Aryan Republican Army, a neo-Nazi gang suspected of funding the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing—the single largest domestic terror attack in U.S. history—are easily traceable on Google. The Aryan Republican Army had six known members. Three were friends of Haughton’s from the skinhead music scene in Philadelphia—Scott Stedeford, Kevin McCarthy, and Michael Brescia. In 1996, when he was a twenty-four-year-old college student, Brescia was investigated by the FBI on the suspicion that he was John Doe 2—the Oklahoma City bombing suspect who was never caught. (The FBI later claimed John Doe 2 didn’t exist.) Haughton also has this job even though the Justice Department, in conducting a security clearance investigation, could have found lyrics for twenty-four Arresting Officers songs on a single webpage on songlyrics.com.
