Birds Connect Seattle.
That is the new name unveiled Tuesday of the organization formerly known as the Seattle chapter of the National Audubon Society, as it severs ties from its namesake, slave owner John James Audubon.
Birds Connect Seattle was the first major chapter in the national network to announce last year it would drop the Audubon name. The new name comes nearly two weeks after the National Audubon Society, the country’s leading bird conservation group, announced it would retain the name despite pressure to end its association with the enslaver whose racist legacy is well documented.

A federal judge temporarily blocked a Tennessee law restricting drag shows on Friday, the day before it was set to go into effect.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker granted a temporary restraining order blocking enforcement of the law for two weeks, finding that it was “likely both vague and overly-broad.”
The law, signed by Gov. Bill Lee (R) last month, criminalized drag shows that take place in public or where they could be seen by children.
Parker agreed with Friends of George’s, the Memphis-based LGBTQ theater group contesting the law, that “this language could mean just about anywhere.”

Well-known Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was killed by a bomb blast in a St Petersburg cafe on Sunday in what appeared to be the second assassination on Russian soil of a figure closely associated with the war in Ukraine.
Russia's state Investigative Committee said it had opened a murder investigation. State-owned RIA news agency said 25 people were wounded and 19 of them were being treated in hospital.
TASS news agency quoted an unnamed source as saying the bomb was hidden in a miniature statue that was handed to Tatarsky as he addressed a group of people in the cafe.

To date, city leadership has yet to pass any major legislation to support significant changes to transform the city. Ted Egan, the city’s chief economist, believes that the likeliest scenario is that the forces of market capitalism will right the ship. Ideas such as office-to-housing conversions, for example, can’t be done quickly or at a big enough scale to make a difference, he has argued.
“We need an element of modesty here,” he said. “In San Francisco, there’s a tradition of grand ambitions. And I think we need, rather than promoting a grand vision, we should … let nature take its course while not going off the rails.”

What Nelson had discovered is that LEDs are not good or bad but more like weird. The finickiness reflects the fundamental nature of the product. The LED bulb is the shape of an old lightbulb, and it fits into a lightbulb socket, and it gives off light, but it’s not so much a lightbulb as a lightbulb emulator. What it is is a computer.

A San Antonio man is not expected to face charges after his car was stolen and a confrontation with the suspected thief ended in fatal gunfire on Wednesday, March 29, police said.
The man's vehicle was stolen from his Northside home on Wednesday afternoon, police said. But by using an Apple AirTag, he was able to track his truck down to a shopping center on the Southeast Side in the 3200 block of Southeast Military Drive.
SAPD spokesperson Nick Soliz said the man called police to report his vehicle as stolen, but did not wait for police to arrive before attempting to confront the suspected car thief around 4 p.m.
