The day before Dominion Voting System’s defamation trial against Fox News was set to begin in a Delaware courthouse, the Fox board of directors and top executives made a startling discovery that helped lead to the breaking point between the network and Tucker Carlson, one of its top stars.
Private messages sent by Mr. Carlson that had been redacted in legal filings showed him making highly offensive and crude remarks that went beyond the inflammatory, often racist comments of his prime-time show and anything disclosed in the lead-up to the trial.
Despite the fact that Fox’s trial lawyers had these messages for months, the board and some senior executives were now learning about their details for the first time, setting off a crisis at the highest level of the company, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.

North Dakota's Republican Gov. Doug Burgum has signed a bill that limits access to bathrooms, locker rooms and showers for transgender and gender-nonconforming people in several state facilities. That includes dorms and living facilities controlled by the state board of higher education, as well as correctional facilities for youths and adults. Restrooms and shower rooms at these facilities would be designated for use exclusively for males or exclusively for females. Transgender or gender-nonconforming people would need to get approval from a staff member at the facility to use the restroom or shower room of their choice. Burgum's office announced Wednesday that the bill was signed the previous day.

The US supreme court justice Neil Gorsuch made as much as $500,000 from a 2017 real estate sale, according to a new report, but did not disclose the identity of the buyer: the chief executive of a law firm with extensive business before the high court.
The news represents a new headache for the chief justice, John Roberts, who Democrats want to testify over extensive media reporting about the relationship between Clarence Thomas, another conservative, and a Republican mega-donor, Harlan Crow. Roberts has declined to appear before the Senate judiciary committee next week, according to Senator Dick Durbin.
Gorsuch was confirmed in 2017, the first of three appointments under Donald Trump which tilted the court firmly right.
