WWE Founder Vince McMahon Accused of Sexual Assault, Trafficking in New Lawsuit
    https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/wwe-vince-mcmahon-sexual-assault-trafficking-lawsuit-1234954434/
Vince McMahon is accused of sexual assault and trafficking in a lawsuit filed by a former employee against the WWE founder and his wrestling company. In 2022, McMahon announced he was stepping down from the WWE amid an internal investigation that found allegations of a hush-money payment to a former employee, with McMahon allegedly paying a secret $3 million to the then-unnamed female, a WWE paralegal, to keep their “consensual” affair private. However, on Thursday, the woman — Janel Grant, who was hired in the specially made role of “administrator-coordinator” in WWE’s legal department — filed a lawsuit against McMahon, WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis, and the wrestling company outlining years of alleged sexual assaults.

Ex-Arcola cop pleaded guilty to kidnapping woman after alleged sexual assault
    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/crime/article/ex-arcola-cop-pleaded-guilty-to-violating-rights-18621855.php
A former Arcola police officer pleaded guilty Friday to kidnapping a 26-year-old Pasadena woman he pulled over in 2019 and allegedly sexually assaulted. The guilty plea comes eight months after a separate trial in which a jury found Ruiz guilty of obstructing, destroying and altering records during a separate traffic stop the same year. In that case, a Fort Bend woman alleged that the patrolman raped her in her home — an accusation that Ruiz was found not guilty of by a jury.

California could require car ‘governors’ that limit speeding to 10 mph over posted limits
    https://www.sfchronicle.com/california/article/car-speed-governors-bill-18624126.php
California would become the first state to require new vehicles be equipped with speed governors — technology that limits how fast they can be driven — under legislation by San Francisco state Sen. Scott Wiener. The bill, introduced Wednesday, would require cars and trucks of the 2027 model year or later that are built or sold in California to include speed governors that would prohibit motorists from driving more than 10 mph over posted speed limits. The legislation aims to address the epidemic of traffic deaths in the Bay Area and California, Wiener said. Traffic fatalities rose during the pandemic in San Francisco and nationwide, and speed factors in about a third of traffic deaths across the country, according to the National Safety Council. The National Highway Safety Administration estimated more than 40,000 traffic fatalities in 2022. “The tragic reality is that a lot of people are being severely injured or dying on our streets in San Francisco and throughout the country, and it’s getting worse,” Wiener told the Chronicle.

What happens when an astronaut in orbit says he’s not coming back?

On the second day of the mission, Wang floated over to his experiment and sought to activate the Drop Dynamics Module. But it didn't work. He asked the NASA flight controllers on the ground if he could take some time to try to troubleshoot the problem and maybe fix the experiment. But on any Shuttle mission, time is precious. Every crew member has a detailed timeline, with a long list of tasks during waking hours. The flight controllers were reluctant. After initially being told no, Wang pressed a bit further. "Listen, I know my system very well," he said. "Give me a shot." Still, the flight controllers demurred. Wang grew desperate. So he said something that chilled the nerves of those in Houston watching over the safety of the crew and the Shuttle mission. "Hey, if you guys don't give me a chance to repair my instrument, I'm not going back," Wang said.

The Woman Who Spent Five Hundred Days in a Cave
    https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/01/29/the-woman-who-spent-five-hundred-days-in-a-cave
In early September, 2022—nearly three hundred days into her adventure—she carried her tent up the shaft, then pitched it right at the cave’s exit. She went back down to retrieve food and water, then resurfaced. Six days after she left the cave, Reyes visited the site and discovered her tent. She briefly explained to him what had happened. The exchange compromised one of the key terms of Flamini’s self-imposed isolation. While a new router was acquired and installed, she stayed inside the tent. The interlude outside the cave would likely upend her attempt to surpass Veljković’s effort, but she was nonetheless determined to return underground and complete five hundred days. After eight days, she went back down.
