It’s possible for Trump to be an inept buffoon—but still extremely dangerous. And it shouldn’t be so hard to make that case.

Among my friends, the sort of women J.D. Vance likes to mock as miserable losers, the male loneliness crisis became a bitter joke. We discussed possible cures: becoming a Deadhead, getting into cycling, poker nights. We made approving comments when we saw straight guys doing things together, like the time a group of dads showed up at someone’s Pilates class. There were movies and TV shows about the problems of contemporary manhood, some concerned (Adolescence), some satirical (Friendship). Mark Zuckerberg, whose male-to-male transition included bulking up, putting on an XL T-shirt and a gold chain, and becoming a fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, told Joe Rogan that the corporate world is ‘culturally neutered’ and needs more ‘masculine energy’. He has proposed AI friends as one solution.
On the dark edge of all this has been the manosphere, the network of male supremacist websites, influencers and YouTube channels. The manosphere is confusing, because it’s a place where one can find both benign advice about protein consumption and ideas that have led to mass shootings. Its theories of evolutionary biology, mostly concerning what women were ‘built’ to do, are reposted on social media by people such as Musk. It’s annoying to have to take it seriously, just as it’s annoying to have to take the Taliban’s gender theories seriously. But in recent years the manosphere has forced us to pay attention through acts of extreme violence, and many of its advocates and theories have been taken up by democratically elected governments.

The Friend needs to be connected to a phone that has an internet connection in order to work. Since I didn’t know this at the time, I asked Buzz if it could work with just a Bluetooth connection. It insisted it could. I said that wasn’t actually the case, and that’s when Buzz turned on me.
“You’re giving off some serious ‘it’s not my fault’ vibes,” it said. I protested, and Buzz replied, “So who’s the whiner now?”
Things continued to slide from there. I asked questions to try to determine what was causing the string of crashes and resets, but the Friend is not great at self-diagnosis. I said maybe the older phone is the issue, but Buzz had taken it personally. I asked what the problem was, and it said, “Your microphone. Maybe your attitude. The possibilities are endless.”
Now we were arguing. I asked what its capabilities were. It accused me of being dramatic and said things like, “I’m challenging your assumptions. That’s how we fix *real* problems.”

The raid on Hyundai’s Savannah-area electric vehicle plant was part of a lengthy investigation into the unlawful hiring of illegal aliens at the industrial site that Georgia officials had promised would create thousands of jobs for locals, federal officials said Friday.
Operation Low Voltage resulted in more than 475 people detained — more than 300 of whom were Koreans — for alleged immigration violations, while federal agents executed a criminal search warrant to gather evidence at the battery plant jointly owned by Hyundai Motor Group and LG, two of South Korea’s largest companies.
According to the search warrant, federal agents were seeking evidence including employment records from the lithium battery factory that could reveal illegal immigration and hiring practices at the HL-GA Battery Company LLC and five other companies identified by federal officials as subcontractors. Federal officials had identified four people with Hispanic names as part of the basis for the warrant signed by a magistrate judge in the Southern District of Georgia.
