Mahmoud Khalil’s Detention Is a Trial Run
    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/03/mahmoud-khalil-ice-detention/682001/?gift=Je3D9AQS-C17lUTOnl2W8DDw44YzRHjgxPrwq7JUGjk
The pro-Palestine student was arrested without due process for exercising his right to free speech. He will not be the last. The federal government has provided no evidence that Mahmoud Khalil has committed a criminal offense, and yet on Saturday night, he was taken by agents of the state from his home and renditioned to a detention facility where neither his pregnant wife nor his lawyer have had access to him. Khalil, a legal permanent resident of the United States and Palestinian activist who helped lead the protests at Columbia University over the Israel-Hamas war last spring, seems to have been disappeared by the U.S. government because of his political views. Khalil was among the students urging the university to cut financial and educational ties with Israel. (Unlike with other categories of immigrants, revoking the status of legal permanent residents generally requires evidence of wrongdoing.)

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/lifestyle/article/a-4-year-olds-mom-ate-his-ice-cream-he-called-the-cops/

Police were dispatched for a 911 hangup in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, last Tuesday, after a little boy called to say his mom had to be locked up, according to local police. “My mommy is being bad,” the 4-year-old told the 911 dispatcher, according to a recording obtained by CNN affiliate WTMJ.

Trump says Ontario ‘not allowed’ to slap surcharge on electricity sent to U.S. states
    https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/politics/queens-park/article/we-dont-need-your-energy-trump-says-in-response-to-ontarios-electricity-surcharge/
U.S. President Donald Trump is responding to Ontario’s decision to slap a 25 per cent surcharge on all electricity exports to the United States, threatening to “get it all back” with reciprocal tariffs on April 2. “Despite the fact that Canada is charging the USA from 250% to 390% on Tariffs on many of our farm products, Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on ‘electricity,’ of all things, and your not even allowed to do that,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Because our Tariffs are reciprocal, we’ll just get it all back on April 2.” He repeated previous claims that Canada is a “Tariff abuser” and suggested that the U.S. will “not be subsidizing Canada anymore.” “We don’t need your Cars, we don’t need your Lumber, we don’t your Energy, and very soon you will find that out,” he wrote.

But actions such as this pale in comparison with the scale of those taken by climate activists abroad. In Germany, activists last year staged attacks against gas pipelines, while others escalated a campaign against concrete with two arson attacks on a Cemex plant in Berlin.
