Is a white nationalist part of Kari Lake's team? Her campaign won't say.
    https://azmirror.com/briefs/is-a-white-nationalist-part-of-kari-lakes-campaign-team-her-campaign-wont-say/
Kari Lake grinned widely and flashed a thumbs up as she posed for a photo Sunday with a far-right political operative who is reportedly a fervent follower and close associate of white nationalist Nick Fuentes. A few days before the event for campaign volunteers, Wade Searle, who worked as the digital director for U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar until shortly after he was unmasked as one the “strongest soldiers” for white nationalist leader Nick Fuentes, was standing almost directly behind Lake at a press conference where Wyoming U.S. Sen. John Barrasso endorsed her. It’s unclear if Searle is working for Lake or what ties he has to her campaign for U.S. Senate.

Biden Redefines “Cease-Fire” to Stem Anger Over Gaza
    https://www.thenation.com/article/world/biden-redefines-cease-fire-gaza/
After months of not using the term at all, the administration has embraced it, but is using it in a way that has little to do with what activists are demanding.

Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu will utterly fold and pay $2.4M to settle its lawsuit
    https://www.theverge.com/2024/3/4/24090357/nintendo-yuzu-emulator-lawsuit-settlement
Just over a week ago, Nintendo sued the developers of the leading Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu, for “facilitating piracy at a colossal scale.” Now, it appears that Yuzu will give up without a fight — and give Nintendo everything it wanted. And it’ll affect the Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra, too. According to a joint filing, Tropic Haze has not only agreed to pay $2,400,000 to Nintendo but also says Yuzu is “primarily designed to circumvent and play Nintendo Switch games.” The company agrees to be permanently enjoined from working on Yuzu, hosting Yuzu, distributing Yuzu’s code or features, hosting websites and social media that promote Yuzu, or doing anything else that circumvents Nintendo’s copyright protection. Oh, and it will surrender the yuzu-emu.org domain name to Nintendo, agree to delete not only its copies of Yuzu but also “all circumvention tools used for developing or using Yuzu—such as TegraRcmGUI, Hekate, Atmosphère, Lockpick_RCM, NDDumpTool, nxDumpFuse, and TegraExplorer,” and hand over any “physical circumvention devices” and “modified Nintendo hardware” to Nintendo. It also agrees to not delete any other “evidence” that infringes Nintendo’s IP rights.

Barrett joins liberal justices on Trump ballot ban ruling going too far
    https://thehill.com/homenews/4506721-barrett-liberal-justices-supreme-court-trump-ballot-ban/
Former President Trump pulled out an unanimous victory at the Supreme Court on Monday in his historic ballot ban case that invoked the 14th Amendment, but a 5-4 division among the justices emerged beneath the surface — joined by one of his own nominees. Conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett and the court’s three liberals criticized their five conservative colleagues for going further than they needed to in resolving Trump’s case by also determining that the only way for the 14th Amendment to be enforced is through a statute by Congress. “This suit was brought by Colorado voters under state law in state court. It does not require us to address the complicated question whether federal legislation is the exclusive vehicle through which Section 3 can be enforced,” Barrett, Trump’s last appointee to the high court, wrote in a concurring opinion.

    Joe Biden’s Last Campaign
    https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/03/11/joe-bidens-last-campaign
Trailing Trump in polls and facing doubts about his age, the President voices defiant confidence in his prospects for reëlection. Unsurprisingly, Biden’s aides reject the idea that the White House is insular or dismissive of reality. Zients, who succeeded Ron Klain as chief of staff last year, pointed to Biden’s reputation for soliciting opinions from critics. “Just the other day, he picked up the phone and called Larry Summers,” Zients said. As outreach goes, it was relatively safe; Summers, despite his critical comments, is a longtime adviser to Presidents. Biden’s other occasional calls range from the columnist Thomas Friedman to the Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. “That’s how you pressure-test decisions,” Zients said.

    Outdoor Encampments — Consequence Forum
    https://www.consequenceforum.org/deterrence-policies/outdoor-encampments
In September of 2021, local Haitian-American leaders and members of Alliance San Diego asked me to join them in their trip to the Border Patrol’s Open Air Detention Site (OADS) in Del Rio, Texas. They asked because Texas authorities had begun enforcing federal immigration laws with a flare of old southern brutality, and aside from being a migrant rights activist, I knew both the Border Patrol as a former agent and the ways of southern cops and sundown towns as I grew up in Alabama. My role would be limited to providing them with guidance regarding the Border Patrol’s culture and protocols and any safety issues that might arise from their operations.

    Burnt Offerings | Erik Baker
    https://www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/online-only/burnt-offerings/
Since Aaron Bushnell’s death by self-immolation this week in protest of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, his detractors have warned about the risk of “contagion,” suggesting that his protest will encourage imitators (who, they imply, share his alleged mental instability). There may or may not be additional self-immolators before the slaughter comes to an end, just as Bushnell was preceded by a woman, yet to be identified publicly, who burned herself to death outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta in December. But the purpose of lighting yourself on fire is not to encourage other people to light themselves on fire. It is to scream to the world that you could find no alternative, and in that respect it is a challenge to the rest of us to prove with our own freedom that there are other ways to meaningfully resist a society whose cruelty has become intolerable.

    Behind F1's Velvet Curtain
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/behind-f1-s-velvet-curtain/ar-BB1jaZRu
Most of us have the distinct pleasure of going throughout our lives bereft of the physical presence of those who rule over us. Were we peasants instead of spreadsheet jockeys, warehouse workers, and baristas, we would toil in our fields in the shadow of some overbearing castle from which the lord or his steward would ride down on his thunderous charger demanding our fealty and our tithes. Now, though, the real high end of the income inequality curve—the 0.01 percenters—remains elusive. To their great advantage, they can buy their way out of public life. However, if you want to catch a glimpse of them, all you need to do is attend a single day of Formula 1 racing.
