Manhattan DA won't oppose Trump filing request to have NY conviction tossed, likely delaying sentencing
    https://www.yahoo.com/gma/manhattan-da-says-wouldnt-oppose-151100708.html
The Manhattan district attorney's office said Tuesday it would not oppose former President Donald Trump's request to file a motion arguing that his hush money conviction should be tossed, a move that will almost certainly delay Trump's sentencing, which is currently set for July 11. "Although we believe defendant's arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion," assistant district attorney Josh Steinglass wrote in a letter to Judge Juan Merchan. On Monday, just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling that Trump has some presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken to overturn results of the 2020 election, Trump's attorneys sent a letter to Judge Merchan asking to him to "set aside the jury's verdict" in his hush money case.

The late-Quaternary megafauna extinctions: Patterns, causes, ecological consequences and implications for ecosystem management in the Anthropocene
    https://archive.is/BBeWl
Our review shows that there is little support for any major influence of climate, neither in global extinction patterns nor in fine-scale spatiotemporal and mechanistic evidence. Conversely, there is strong and increasing support for human pressures as the key driver of these extinctions, with emerging evidence for an initial onset linked to pre-sapiens hominins prior to the Late Pleistocene. Subsequently, we synthesize the evidence for ecosystem consequences of megafauna extinctions and discuss the implications for conservation and restoration.

The Deep Roots of the Chiquita Verdict
    https://time.com/6989104/chiquita-colombia-lawsuit/
On June 10, Colombian civilians, banana workers, and their families won a historic victory against Chiquita Brands International and its former subsidiary, Banadex. The 17-year-old case stemmed from secret and illegal payments totaling $1.7 million that Chiquita made to the United Self-Defense Groups of Colombia (Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia, AUC) between 1997 and 2004. AUC, a right-wing paramilitary and drug trafficking death squad allied with Colombian state forces, massacred, tortured, and displaced thousands of Colombians—especially trade unionists and social activists.

Sneezing Is Usually Good For You — Unless It Causes Your Bowels To Eject
    https://www.inverse.com/health/sneezing-is-usually-good-for-you-unless-it-causes-your-bowels-to-eject
If you were to envision the kind of accident that would cause a person’s bowels to explode out of their body, you might imagine some sort of gruesome stabbing or grisly car accident. You’d probably never imagine that something as commonplace and harmless as a sneeze would cause this kind of ghastly injury – but that’s exactly what happened to a Florida man earlier this month.

Dev rejects CVE severity, makes his GitHub repo read-only
    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/dev-rejects-cve-severity-makes-his-github-repo-read-only/
The CVE has to do with the utility not correctly identifying private IP addresses supplied to it in a non-standard format, such as hexadecimal. This would cause the 'node-ip' utility to treat a private IP address (in hex format) such as " 0x7F.1..." (which represents 127.1...) as public. Should an application rely solely on node-ip to check if a provided IP address is public, non-standard inputs can cause inconsistent results to be returned by the affected versions of the utility.
